Nandonia is a free-to-play medieval city-builder in a persistent multiplayer world where you claim land, grow your empire, and uncover the mysteries of a world remade by cataclysm. Everything on this page may be quoted, and every file may be used in coverage of the game.
Made by one person
Nandonia is made by a single developer, Nano. That means Nano deals with the game design, graphic design, narrative design, UI/UX design, coding, testing, marketing, infrastructure, moderation, community management, and anything else that may pop up. The project began in 2017 and went through several incarnations before it became the game it is today, with more than 700 hours of work so far in 2026 to reach this launch.
Almost all of the artwork in the game has been created via AI image generation. Every generated image is then edited by hand: the cut-out cleaned, anything the generator got wrong repainted, and the whole reworked until it belongs with the rest. A building has to read as the same building across all five of its tiers, a character as the same person in every pose, and ten wonder paintings, sixty building images and hundreds of icons have to sit in one world. That editing is where most of the art's hours go, but without the AI image generation to begin with, the game would not be anywhere near as good as it is today. With that said, the ultimate goal - if the game is successful long term - would be for additional creatives to be hired or contracted to work on the game's art assets, story, music, etc. For now it is just Nano and whatever tooling is available to assist.
How the art is made, in one line
Nandonia's art is made with AI image generation and then edited extensively by hand, by the game's one developer.
What it is

Build your city
Start with a Town Hall and grow a city of ten building types, each with up to 20 levels and five visual tiers. Resource extractors run on cooldowns, so a city is something you come back to periodically.

Explore the Spiral Continent
One world map, made of every plot of land claimed by each player. Envoys travel across the map and explore the wilderness inside it, and every exploration carries some type of reward.

Uncover a buried history
A cataclysm called The Twisting crushed eight continents of Nandonia into a single spiral continent. The mystery of what happened is slowly uncovered as you recover more than 900 lore fragments throughout gameplay.

Visit other players' cities
Interact with other players in a variety of ways. Every visit benefits both you and your host. There is no way for another player to take from you or set back your progress.

Delve ancient ruins
Take an envoy down floor by floor and decide each time whether to go deeper or come back with your accumulated rewards. The first player to clear a ruin's last floor names it on the map, forever.

Trade and patronage
Everything another player has built is something to trade with or invest in. Fund a stranger's Hotel, School or Market and draw a cut of what it earns while your stake stands.

The pitch
One line
Nandonia is a free-to-play medieval city-builder in a persistent multiplayer world where you claim land, grow your empire, and uncover the mysteries of a world remade by cataclysm.
One paragraph
Nandonia is a free medieval city-builder you play in your browser, on phone or desktop, with no download and no ads. Build a city from ten types of building, then send envoys across a shared world where every visit to another player's city pays you both, and trade and invest with the people you meet. Beyond your walls, delve ruins floor by floor and piece together the history of a world erased by a cataclysm called The Twisting from more than 900 lore fragments. There is no combat, and nothing you build can ever be taken or destroyed by another player.
